Cilla Lee-Jenkins: Future Author Extraordinaire
by Susan Tan

Cilla Lee-Jenkins Future Author Extraordinaire is about a girl who is going to meet her new baby sister Gwendolyn (the blob), but Cilla is not excited. Cilla thinks her family is good enough the way it is and doesn’t want to share her parents, grandparents nor toys. She wants to be an author, and gets excited when she meets a time traveler that tells her she’s going to be a famous author. Cilla could not read at the age of 7, but overcomes it when she goes to reading classes with her “greatest enemy”. Cilla, who has a best friend named Colleen, loves to talk and play on the playground. She also loves to eat escargot with her Nai Nai (grandmother), and when the baby was born she got to drive to Chinatown with both sets of grandparents. The most hilarious part of the story is when she met her baby sister and said “Hi Blob.” I love this book because Cilla is Chinese and Caucasian. It’s cool to have different grandparents. Once you finish all of Susan Tan’s three books, you’re going to wish she wrote a million more and that Cilla was alive!
